The ULTIMATE guide to Liquid Screen Protectors! Are they worth the HYPE?

So I’ve spent the last few months using several liquid screen protectors and here’s the bottom line: Liquid screen protectors are not a complete replacement for traditional screen protectors. With all that being said, liquid screen protectors are pretty cool. I’ve come to this conclusion after using three different brands of liquid screen protectors on a variety of devices. The questions I personally had about liquid screen protectors and will answer in this video include: 00:01:36 - What are liquid screen protectors exactly? 00:02:58 - Can you really re-add the oleophobic coating back to your device? 00:06:12 - Does it add to the scratch resistance of the device? 00:08:05 - Will it fill in cracks? 00:09:26 - Does it really make the screen tougher? 00:11:07 - Can you use it with other screen protectors? 00:11:30 - How well does it work with a waterproof case? And after I go through all that, I’ll tell you whether or not I would actually recommend using a liquid screen protector (00:11:44). Like what I do? Help me out by getting your stuff through my Amazon links! Doesn't have to be what I link to, you just need to use my link! See how much liquid screen protectors are on Amazon! How do they work?** Liquid screen protectors start off as liquid glass. The base compound that’s used in every liquid screen protector that I’ve come across is Silicone Dioxide. Every product I used had the liquid screen protector in a wipe form and takes a couple of days to dry completely. **Can you really re-add the oleophobic coating back to your device?** I stripped 1/2 my iPhone X with a Magic Eraser and added a liquid screen protector to that stripped side. I performed a water droplet test on both sides of the iPhone and the side with the stock coating out performed the liquid screen protector side. The only thing I noticed throughout this process is that the screens on my older devices definitely felt smoother. **Does it add to the scratch resistance of the device?** It does but unlike regular screen protectors, you can't take it off after it gets damaged. The damage is going to look permanent which isn't great. **Will it fill in cracks or scratches?** I was really hoping that it would. It doesn’t. I applied a liquid screen protector to a cracked screen protector to see if it would fill in the cracks and it didn't. For scratches, I wiped my beat up Apple Watch Series 3 with a liquid screen protector and the giant gash across the front of the device didn’t look any better. Or worse. **Does it really make the screen tougher?** In short, yes it does. I took three identical screen protectors and applied a liquid screen protector to one of them. I used the first two screen protectors to determine what height they would break by dropping a 200g ball on them. It was between 9-10 inches. The screen protector with the liquid screen protector applied broke at 16 inches! **Can you use it with a screen protector on top?** Yes you can! Since it’s just glass on top of your smartphone screen, there’s no reason why you can’t add another layer of glass on your screen. Or plastic, depending on what type of protection your are looking for. **Can you use it with a waterproof case?** This is the only type of screen protector that would work well in any waterproof case since it doesn’t add any thickness to the device. From my perspective, it’s going to work with any waterproof case out there. **So would I actually recommend using a liquid screen protector?** In short? Not by itself on a smartphone. I think it's a good accessory if you're REALLY paranoid about your screen breaking and you use it with other accessories. Our smartphones go through a lot of wear and tear so the tiny bit of protection the product will offer won't be enough. However, I'm not as against using liquid screen protectors on tablets. The screen on my iPad feels like new and since I don't take my iPad much, having the tiny bit of extra protection isn't a bad thing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to stay in the loop! (Edge Coverage Ver.) RinoGear - Apple Watch Series 4 (44mm & 40mm) Screen Protector Wet Installation

44mm (Advanced: Edge Coverage) Buy from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2ydyase 40mm (Advanced: Edge Coverage) Buy from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2RLj7hB 44mm (Easy: No Edges) Buy from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2PuTG1U 40mm (Easy: No Edges) Buy from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2IPntjB *** Written Instructions Below *** PLEASE READ: Watch the video if installing for the first time. It will take 1-2 days for the haziness and micro-bubbles from the installation to disappear. This is normal. Imperfections will disappear as the film settles. CAUTION: Even though the film generally dries after a couple of hours, as a precaution, please allow a full 8 hours of dry time before powering on the device. Step 1: Remove the battery from the device. If your device does not have a removable battery, have it power off if possible. Add a drop (about 1/2 tsp.) of liquid dishwashing soap to one cup of water and stir. This mild solution will be used to position the film(s) on the device. Thoroughly clean surfaces to be covered. TIP: You can also mix this solution in a spray bottle if you have one available. Step 2: With clean hands, soak your fingers into the soapy solution so that you do not leave fingerprints while handling the film(s). With wet fingers, peel off the backing paper from the film, exposing the adhesive side. Dip the entire film into the solution or spray it generously if using a spray bottle, wetting it completely. Hold the film up and gently shake off excess dripping water. The film should now be moist, but not dripping wet. Step 3: Align and apply the film unto the surface of your device. Softly squeegee out the liquid solution and use a cloth to soak up any excess moisture. A credit card can also be used as a larger squeegee. **NOTE: The film will begin to adhere to the surface as the water is squeegeed out and will no longer slide freely on the surface. If the film is not aligned correctly, remove it and start Step 2 over. Step 4: Allow the film to dry at least 3 hours before powering the device. Micro-bubbles should disappear in the next few days. TIP: When applying the film on a curved edge, allow the overhanging portion of the film to dry a bit until it can properly adhere to the surface. Just remember that the film adheres more when it is drier.

Should you get Whoosh! Diamond Defense for your smartphone, tablet or smartwatch? Find out in our Whoosh! Diamond Defense Review!

In short, I’d get Whoosh Diamond Defense if I wanted the maximum amount of protection for my device, on top of a case and a normal screen protector. Liquid screen protectors aren’t a stand alone product when it comes to screen protection.

Honestly, the only upside is the fact that you can add tiny extra bit of protection to all your devices by slathering Whoosh Diamond Defense across everything.

If you want all the details for liquid screen protectors, check out my detailed video about liquid screen protectors: https://youtu.be/NIPOTDUnUfo

At Mobile Reviews Eh, Monty and I base all our reviews on actual usage. This video isn’t sponsored by Whoosh so that means I get to tell you the truth! One of the things I wanted to find out with this product is whether or not it can fill in cracks or scratches.

From my understanding, every liquid screen protector is generally the same. It’s made from Silicone Dioxide or SiO2. It’s liquid glass. You’re basically adding a thin layer of glass to your existing glass.

Installation of the Diamond Defense is quite simple. First you clean your device by rubbing it down with an alcohol wipe. Then you apply the screen protector by using the wet wipe found in the package called Nano liquid. Once you’ve covered your device with the fluid from the wet wipe, you wait a few minutes for it to dry and then buff your screen with the included microfibre cloth. You can do this as many times as you want. The wet wipe installation is why they say it fits ALL smart phones. According to Whoosh, their product doesn’t result in bubbles either. This might have been a big deal a few years ago but the adhesives on modern screen protectors are quite good at being bubble free.

Now Whoosh doesn’t tell you this but liquid screen protectors will take between 24-48 hours to fully cure.

Now the footage that you’re seeing right now is my attempt at trying to see if a liquid screen protector would lessen the cracks this iPhone X incurred. I couldn’t see a noticeable difference after the screen protector was applied. I believe at this moment of capturing this video clip, I was thinking Whoosh could have given me an actual wet wipe and I wouldn’t know any difference.

How about scratches? Here’s my Apple Watch Series 3 after applying the Diamond Defense and the giant gash across the front is still quite giant.

Now one of the selling features of the Diamond Defense is it’s claim that it provides superior scratch resistance. Now logically, if the wet wipe did come with liquid glass, I am technically adding another layer of glass to my device which would be extra scratch protection.

BUT here’s the thing. Diamond Defense basically fuses with the existing glass. You can’t take it off. So if you manage to scratch that thin layer of glass, it’s going to look like you’ve permanently damaged your smartphone’s screen.

Which is probably why Whoosh! has a disclaimer on the back that claims it doesn’t make your 100% scratch proof. Superior scratch resistance that isn’t 100% scratch proof.

Whoosh also placed this sticker on my box saying that it makes screens up to 15x stronger. I was unable to test that claim as I didn’t have the foresight to do what I did to the Crystal Tech Nano 2.0 liquid screen protector so if you want to see how much strong 15-30 molecules of glass is, check out that review video.

The last thing I will say is that Whoosh! doesn’t market the supposedly oleophobic properties of their liquid screen protector which is odd since Spigen and CrystalTech does. Good on them because I’m not sure liquid screen protectors actually add back the oleophobic coating to any smart phone.
