#Toyota #Prius #2018 Toyota Prius If you want pure efficiency and eco-friendly driving without the hassle of plugging in your car, the 2018 Toyota Prius remains at the top of the heap. Pretty much nothing short of a plug-in hybrid will return better real-world results. We've had a 2016 Prius in our long-term test car fleet, and after more than a year we averaged about 50 mpg, even with thousands of miles spent in brutal Los Angeles traffic. We also appreciate the Prius' practicality and comfort, with its generous cargo area and smooth ride quality. Of course, the Prius compromises on acceleration and handling, proving less rewarding to drive than many traditionally powered vehicles. There's also the question of Toyota's infotainment system, which lacks some functionality, and the car's questionable styling. If you're shopping for a hybrid, know that there's more competition than ever. The Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid actually claims slightly higher EPA-rated fuel economy than the Prius and offers a longer warranty. It certainly has a more functional interior with better technology, too. However, the Ioniq is even less satisfying to drive than the Prius, and it's a less comfortable place to spend time. There's also the Kia Niro hybrid, which has the look of an SUV, and a slew of midsize hybrid sedans to consider. Still, there's a reason the Prius remains the king of the hybrid cars. If you put a premium on efficiency and value, you won't be disappointed by the Prius.

Less than a year after the saloon went on sale, the E-Class range has multiplied like a wet Gremlin with the Estate, AMG E63 (saloon and estate), jacked-up All-Terrain, Coupe and Convertible all either on sale, or arriving in the next few months. Here we have the Coupe – the hardest to justify, but the easiest to fall in love with. The product of an almost 50-year history that stretches back to 1968 and the wonderfully named ‘Stroke Eight Coupe’, it’s Mercedes doing what it does best – luxury, space, technology and style. Sure, there’s a selfish element to choosing a coupe, but Merc has tried to ease that descision by making this new car 123mm longer and 74mm wider, with a 68mm wider track front and rear than its predecessor. That means 74mm more legroom in the back and better purchase on the road. Just make sure your parallel parking is up to scratch.
Buying a plug-in hybrid does not mean giving up on driving excitement – at least if you elect one of Porsche’s plug-ins. We’ve already detailed the furious performance of the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, but Porsche is also fitting its Panamera with a lesser-powered fuel-saving powertrain called the 4 E-Hybrid. It combines a biturbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack, providing all-electric mobility while also boosting output to a healthy 462 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque – gains of 132 hp and 185 lb-ft over the base car. “Our first goal was performance, and at the same time, we wanted to improve the efficiency of the vehicle,” says Gernot Döllner, vice president of the Panamera product line. “But we had a clear focus on performance.” Though U.S. economy figures haven’t been finalized, the car is rated for 31 miles of all-electric driving under (often optimistic) European tests, yet it will still tear all the way to 172 miles per hour when given enough derestricted autobahn. For 2018, the Malibu has four trim levels. The base L trim is sparsely equipped, so unless you're looking for the least expensive sedan possible, it's better to step up to the LS or 1LT. Both add a considerable amount of content, although like the L, they rely on a smaller, slightly underpowered engine. The Premier trim comes almost fully loaded and adds a more powerful motor. The Malibu is also available in Hybrid trim with similar features to the LT.
